About this event

This event will feature Rowan Merewood, who is a Developer Advocate for Chrome at Google where his primary focus is privacy and security. These topics can be a little heavy though, so in his spare time he likes to build little graphical toys for the web.

Please find a short description of the event in his own words below;

"A personal talk on the things I've discovered by trying to build fun animations on the web, running into performance issues, and then having to chat to my graphics-focused colleagues to understand where I went wrong. We'll explore through CSS animation, SVG, Canvas, and OffscreenCanvas with performance with code comparisons for them. That also means looking into DevTools to understand where the performance issues are occurring - from simple FPS counting, visualising Paint and Layout events, looking at a Performance trace to see if too much work is happening on the main thread, and a deeper look at a trace to see if we're using our GPU effectively."
